Tested, evaluated, and chosen with intention.
Our Dobermanns undergo genetic testing through Laboklin and Generatio. These tests help us identify inherited and congenital health risks, to make responsible breeding decisions, reduce the risk of hereditary disease, and protect the health of future generations.
Hip X-rays - evaluated by an expert appointed by the DV. Annual heart testing at LMU Munich includes ultrasound and 24-hour Holter ECG monitoring. While no testing can guarantee a perfectly healthy puppy, it helps us reduce the risk of serious health conditions.
All the dogs we breed with have passed the ZTP – fit for breeding test carried out by the DV. The ZTP is a careful assessment of whether a Dobermann possesses the health, structure, character and stability worthy of contributing to the next generation.
Yes — you read that right.
We perform puppy personality and aptitude testing (PAT) on all our puppies at 7 weeks old.
Our unique assessment process enables us to more appropriately match puppies with prospective families. We test for several key attributes including, but not limited to: workability, drive, tenderheartedness, human connection, scenting ability, and reactivity.
How? Go back to the basics.
Congratulations on doing your own research and investing in a reputable breeder.
As you may know, the Dobermann breed is prone to some health issues such as heart problems. We believe that breeding for one dimension while treating the others as secondary has become a problem - not only in Dobermanns.
Many breeders are focusing on the appearance of the breed while progressively losing the animal that made the breed remarkable.
To address this, we prioritise health, genetic, and temperament testing in our breeding program. We strive to balance beauty, health and genetics with the quintessential Dobermann attributes, Intelligence, attentiveness, confidence, protective instinct, athletisism, and sensitivity.
Our approach is to blend exceptional specimens to produce well-balanced, and temperamentally sound canines, which will benefit future pedigrees for years to come.
At vom Illerdamm Dobermans, we take pride in our dogs’ mental, physical, and emotional health.
If our approach resonates with you, we’d be honored to tell you more about our dogs and our upcoming litters.
